The NTR district police have successfully apprehended Kancharla Mohan Rao, a notorious inter-state thief, on Thursday. In addition to the arrest, the police also recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 26 lakh and Rs 1 lakh in cash from his possession.
NTR District Commissioner of Police, SV Rajasekhar Babu, addressed the media at the Command Control Centre in Vijayawada, revealing that Mohan has been involved in over 40 house thefts across various police stations in the State. The theft spree included a burglary on October 10, under Patamata police station’s jurisdiction, where the accused stole gold ornaments and Rs 2.2 lakh in cash from a residence.
Following a complaint from the victim, central crime police registered a case, leading to the arrest of Mohan on Thursday.
Mohan Rao, a habitual offender hailing from Kasukuru village in Ponnur mandal and currently residing in Maruvada village in Tuni mandal, committed these crimes to fund his vices. His typical modus operandi involved conducting a reconnaissance during the early hours and then executing the thefts at night. The NTR CP also mentioned that Mohan had been arrested multiple times before, serving jail sentences for cases in Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, East Godavari, West Godavari, Rajahmundry, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Prakasam, and even Hyderabad.
