North Platte Man Arrested After Traffic Stop Uncovers Drugs

A North Platte man wanted on multiple traffic violations is now facing several drug charges after a traffic stop on Interstate 80. Alfonso Romero, 37, was stopped by a Nebraska State Patrol trooper near Maxwell on February 13 for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper noticed a methamphetamine pipe with residue on the dashboard, prompting a search of the vehicle.

Authorities found 14 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 10 grams of cocaine, three Xanax pills, and $1,000 in cash inside the vehicle. Additionally, six grams of cocaine were discovered, which belonged to Romero’s passenger, Colbey Flaming, 32.

Both Romero and Flaming were arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center. They are being held on a $100,000 bond, with 10% required for release. A records check revealed that Romero’s driver’s license had been revoked and that he had an outstanding warrant for traffic offenses. Romero is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 27.
