Noida Police Arrest Key Accused in Multi-Crore GST Scam

The Noida Police have made a major breakthrough in their investigation into the multi-crore GST scam, with the arrest of a 45-year-old man, Anshul Goyal, from Haryana. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to 45, as authorities continue to uncover the scale of the fraud.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Shakti Mohan Avasthy, confirmed that Goyal, a resident of Sirsa in Haryana, had been on the run for the past eight to nine months. “The accused, who was absconding in connection with the GST scam probe, was arrested after a coordinated effort by the Crime Response Team and officials from the Sector 20 police station,” said DCP Avasthy.

Goyal is accused of masterminding the establishment of fake companies and generating fraudulent invoices under their names to claim false input tax credits. The authorities had been tracking his movements for some time and had recently secured a court order under CrPC Section 82, which authorized his arrest.

The Noida Police had offered a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to Goyal’s capture, which ultimately led to his apprehension. The scam, which first came to light in June 2023, involves significant revenue losses to the government, with fraudulent claims of input tax credits submitted by thousands of bogus companies created using forged documents.

Investigations into the scam have revealed that the network involved hundreds of fictitious companies and fraudulent transactions amounting to nearly Rs 10,000 crore. Over two dozen individuals have already been arrested as part of the investigation, which highlights the extensive nature of the fraud.
