In a significant development, Noida Police (Sector 20) have arrested Anshul Goyal, a key figure in the massive Rs16,000 crore GST scam, after he had been evading arrest for months. Goyal, who had a Rs25,000 reward on his head, was detained based on a tip-off earlier today. With his arrest, the total number of arrests in this case has now reached 45.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Shakti Mohan Awasthi, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the police had also filed charge sheets against two other suspects, , in court yesterday. To date, charge sheets have been filed against 38 individuals involved in the scam, and police are actively pursuing other suspects linked to the case.
The GST fraud, which was uncovered in June 2023, involved the fraudulent creation of over 4,000 fake companies by acquiring PAN and Aadhaar cards of individuals across India. These companies illegally claimed Input Tax Credit (ITC), amounting to over Rs16,000 crore, causing a massive loss to the exchequer.
Earlier arrests in the case included Deepak, Vinita, Akash Saini, Vishal,
