Nigerian Musician Speed Darlington Arrested in Owerri

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested popular Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington, in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State.

The arrest was confirmed by the musician’s counsel and human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, who shared the news on his official X page on Wednesday. According to Adeyanju, Speed Darlington was apprehended while performing at a show in Owerri shortly after returning to Nigeria earlier that week.

Adeyanju wrote, “Our client, Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”

As of now, the specific reason for Darlington’s arrest remains unclear. However, reports from PUNCH Online indicate that the musician’s previous encounter with the law may be related to allegations of cyberstalking fellow musician Damini Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy.

Speed Darlington had previously been arrested in Lagos over these cyberstalking allegations, after which he was transferred to Abuja and detained by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team. He was later released on bail a few days after the incident.

Details surrounding this recent arrest are still developing, and more information is expected to be revealed in the coming days.
