North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of Nicole Price, 44, from Cameron, who faces charges of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.
According to special agents from the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Price allegedly attempted to defraud GEICO Insurance Co. by submitting falsified receipts totaling $2,048.95 for automobile insurance expenses, which included towing and glass repair services.
The alleged fraudulent activity took place on January 31, 2023, leading to Price’s charges on June 25 in Harnett County. She was subsequently arrested on July 1, with a bond set at $2,500. Price is scheduled to appear in Harnett County District Court on July 16.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” said Commissioner Causey. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar go to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
