Authorities arrested Nicholas Murphy, a former performance arts teacher at Ardmore High School, on Thursday following accusations of sex crimes with a student.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with ALEA’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, executed a search warrant for Murphy, who resides in Madison.

Murphy is facing several serious charges, including two counts of engaging in sexual contact, two counts of engaging in a sexual act, and two counts of soliciting obscene material. He resigned from his teaching position at Ardmore High on January 13, and his resignation was accepted by the Limestone County Board of Education on January 14, after a thorough investigation into the matter. The case has been handed over to law enforcement authorities for further proceedings.

Limestone County Schools issued a statement confirming the resignation, and authorities indicated that the arrest was the result of a joint investigation involving the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.

Murphy has been booked into the Madison County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $70,000 bond. The investigation into the matter continues.
