New York Couple Indicted for Organized Crime in Elizabethtown

A man and woman from New York have been indicted in Elizabethtown on multiple charges after attempting to make fraudulent purchases at a local Best Buy store using an account that didn’t belong to them.

Xin Liu, 24, and Feiyang Xu, 23, were arrested after police reported that the pair tried to purchase electronics using stolen account details. The Elizabethtown Police Department received a tip on December 4 regarding a male suspect involved in recent fraudulent transactions. The description matched Xu, and police arrested him when he left the store.

Xu allegedly purchased two iPads, providing an account number that did not belong to him. Liu, according to her arrest citation, tried to buy two Apple Watches using the same account number but was unsuccessful.

During their arrest, police discovered two fake California driver’s licenses on Liu, one of which matched the name on the fraudulent Best Buy account. Xu had three fake IDs on him—two from California and one from Texas, with one matching the account details.

Authorities also noted a third suspect nearby, but that individual could not be located. Liu and Xu now face serious charges, including engaging in organized crime, identity theft, and possession of forged instruments.

Liu was indicted on charges of engaging in organized crime—criminal syndication; two counts of attempted identity theft; and two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument. Xu faces charges of engaging in organized crime—criminal syndication; three counts of identity theft; and three counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Engaging in organized crime is a Class B felony in Kentucky, punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Both Liu and Xu have been released from the Hardin County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
