In a major blow to an inter-state drug trafficking racket, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized a staggering 934 kgs of Ganja and arrested Surjit Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh. The operation, conducted in Assam’s Kamrup district on August 2, disrupted a major drug supply chain extending from Manipur to West Bengal.
Acting on special intelligence and after several days of continuous surveillance, the NCB Guwahati Zonal Unit launched the operation near a Roadside Dhaba and Restaurant on Barpalaha, Mangaldoi Road. The NCB team apprehended Surjit Singh while he was traveling toward Kolkata in a truck. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of 934.510 kg of Ganja, which was cleverly concealed in a custom-made cavity within the truck and packed in plastic packets.
According to the Zonal Director of NCB Guwahati, the source of the contraband was traced to Senapati (Manipur), and the drugs were intended for distribution in West Bengal.
This successful operation is part of ongoing efforts by the NCB to curb the rising menace of drug trafficking in the region. It follows another significant seizure by the Guwahati Zonal Unit on July 23, where 6.790 kg of drugs were seized, and two individuals were arrested. The NCB remains committed to dismantling inter-state trafficking networks, as the investigation into this case continues.
Surjit Singh is currently under custody, and authorities are working to uncover further links to the larger trafficking network.
