Nathan Hickam Charged After Shooting and Assault in Hillsboro Home

HILLSBORO, Mo. — Nathan Andrew Hickam, 43, was arrested on June 3 following a violent incident at a residence east of Hillsboro where he allegedly attacked a woman he is related to, fired a gun at her twice, and fled with the weapon and other belongings.

Court records indicate Hickam faces two counts of first-degree domestic assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, stealing a firearm, tampering with a victim in a felony case, and armed criminal action, all serious felony charges.

According to the probable-cause statement, the assault began when Hickam argued with the woman at her home on El Vado Drive. He reportedly pinned her down, choked her, and threatened to kill her. Afterward, Hickam allegedly took her gun and fired a shot that grazed her head and went through several walls.

The suspect then dragged the victim by the throat down a hallway, threw her down, and fired a second shot. He proceeded to the kitchen, where he damaged property before leaving the scene. Hickam is also accused of stealing the woman’s medication and iPhone to prevent her from calling for help.

At the time of the assault, Hickam was on probation for previous assault convictions from 2010 and 2017. Due to his record, prosecutors are pursuing enhanced felony charges that carry substantial prison sentences. Hickam remains held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail as the case proceeds.
