Nancy Ruth Birkner Arrested for Allegedly Violating Election Laws

Walhalla, S.C. – Nancy Ruth Birkner, a 58-year-old woman from Seneca, was arrested this week on charges of fraudulent registration and voting after allegedly attempting to vote more than once. The arrest stems from an incident that took place prior to the November 5 General Election.

According to a source close to the Oconee County Elections Office, the alleged violation involved absentee voting by mail. A complaint was filed with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), which led to the investigation. The complaint claims that Birkner attempted to cast more than one vote during the election.

Birkner, who resides on Smoke Pond Road in Seneca, was released from the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $5,000 personal recognizance bond. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to review the case.

The Journal will provide updates as more information becomes available.
