Naharlagun Police Bust Cybercrime Involving Fake Pornographic Video

The Naharlagun police recently uncovered a cybercrime ring involving the creation and distribution of a fake pornographic video, which exploited a local girl’s photo. The video, which depicted the girl in a sexual act, was circulated on the Telegram app under the title “Arunachal Girl’s VIP,” where it was made available for a fee.

The victim, a student from Guwahati, Assam, discovered that her image had been digitally altered and used in a pornographic video shared on various social media platforms. Upon realizing the exploitation of her image, she filed a complaint with the Naharlagun police, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the law.

A dedicated team, led by Inspector K Dev and supported by officers SI Niri Rama and SI Vivek Linggi, launched an investigation into the matter under the supervision of Naharlagun SDPO Paul Jerang and SP Mihin Gambo. Using both conventional and technical investigative methods, the team was able to identify the culprits behind the crime.

The primary accused, Tai Tacha (22), a college student from Arunachal Pradesh, was found to have created the fake video using the girl’s photo. The video was then shared on Telegram, with viewers required to pay via a QR code linked to the account of Hillang John (24), another college student. Both suspects were arrested on October 11 in Naharlagun.

Tacha had created a fake Telegram profile under a local alias, through which he shared the manipulated video in exchange for payments. The photos used in the video were taken from the victim’s Instagram account and then digitally altered to create the obscene footage.

Both suspects have been apprehended, and further investigation into their activities is ongoing.
