In a significant breakthrough, the New Capital Complex (NCC) police in Agartala have successfully arrested a suspect in a brutal murder case after seven years. The incident, which occurred on June 5, 2018, involved the brutal hacking death of Rezaul Hossain, a youth from the minority community, in the Bholanand Pally area of Agartala.
Following an investigation into the murder, authorities uncovered that Hossain Ahmed, a friend of Rezaul Hossain, was responsible for the crime. Ahmed had lured Rezaul to the crime scene under the pretense of sharing earnings from an illegal business. After committing the murder, Hossain Ahmed fled to Bangladesh, making it difficult for police to apprehend him.
However, after receiving a crucial tip-off, NCC Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Prajit Malakar, led a successful raid in Jaypur, Jaynagar, Agartala, and arrested the fugitive. Hossain Ahmed was presented in court, and police secured a four-day remand for further interrogation to investigate the details surrounding the crime.
The arrest marks a pivotal moment in the long-unsolved case, bringing justice closer for the family of Rezaul Hossain. Authorities are continuing their efforts to investigate the full scope of the incident.
In a separate case earlier this month, the Cachar Police dismantled an interstate car theft gang, arresting five individuals connected to the murder of truck driver Bidhan Dutta in Churachandpur, Manipur. The stolen vehicle was recovered, and further investigations are ongoing.
