Mundelein Man Arrested for Deceptive Practices in BMW Fraud Case

Stamatios E. Shinas of Mundelein has been arrested and is facing felony charges for deceptive practices and driving with a revoked license. He was taken into custody at 4:20 p.m. on October 29 in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 30 when staff at an auto dealership reported that Shinas had purchased a 2020 BMW M8 using a check that later bounced due to insufficient funds. After the dealership attempted to cash the check, it was returned, prompting them to file a police report. Despite several efforts by both the dealership and the Northbrook Police Department to reach Shinas, he remained unresponsive, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant.

On August 8, the Illinois State Police located the stolen BMW in Cicero, but Shinas was not found at the time. He was finally apprehended on October 30. A court date has been scheduled for November 14 to address the charges against him.
