In a breakthrough, the Mumbai Police have successfully cracked a theft case involving Rs 1.85 crore stolen from a courier service office in Girgaon. The arrest of two individuals led to the recovery of a staggering Rs 2.07 crore, leaving the police surprised and suggesting the possibility of additional thefts from other locations.
On February 22, Hitesh Khatri, the owner of the courier service, was alerted by his employee, Naresh Rajput, about missing money. The funds, which had been collected from various transactions, were stored in a wooden cupboard at the office located in Second Bhoiwada, Girgaon. After reviewing the CCTV footage, the police found that two masked individuals had entered the office around 9:15 a.m. using a key, disabled the security cameras, and made off with the cash.
A swift response from the police team, led by Sub-Inspector Deepak Khandekar, led to a city-wide search for the suspects. On the same day, Mumbai Central Railway Police arrested Dhanji Rajput (20) at Mumbai Central Railway Station and recovered Rs 1.55 crore in cash. Further investigation uncovered his accomplice, Vijay Rajput (19), and additional stolen money was recovered.
Both Dhanji and Vijay have been arrested, and further inquiries are underway to determine if the duo was involved in other similar thefts across the city.
