Mumbai police have arrested Ashish Butiram Sayal, a 32-year-old office assistant, in connection with the Rs40 lakh theft from the **music studio of Bollywood composer Pritam Chakraborty. The suspect was taken into custody in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district after an extensive investigation by the Malad police station.
The theft was reported on February 4, and CCTV footage from the studio did not clearly identify the suspect. However, police sifted through 150 to 200 CCTV recordings from various locations like Kandivali, Malad, Charkop, Versova, Marve Road, Malwani, and Samta Nagar. The footage showed Sayal leaving the studio, taking multiple rickshaws, and walking across different areas of Mumbai before leaving the city, spending about eight hours in transit.
Using technical surveillance, police tracked him to Samba, where a team arrested him in the Railway Road area. Officers recovered Rs34 lakh in cash, an iPhone, and a MacBook worth Rs2.87 lakh. The stolen money was used to buy the electronic devices, which were seized.
The arrest attracted a large crowd at the police station in Samba, where officers briefed the public before bringing Sayal back to Mumbai for further legal proceedings.
