The Malad Police in Mumbai have arrested Budho Sheikh and Kalej Shaikh for their alleged involvement in the theft of jewelry valued at Rs24 lakh. The two accused, both aged 25, were employed at a local jewelry-making shop in Malad where the theft occurred.
The incident came to light when the complainant, who operates the jewelry business, noticed that both Sheikh and Shaikh had stopped coming to work in October. When attempts to contact them by phone failed, the complainant decided to conduct an audit of the jewelry at the shop. It was then that he discovered jewelry worth Rs24.5 lakh was missing.
Suspicious of the employees’ sudden disappearance, the complainant immediately contacted the Malad Police and filed a case against the duo. A subsequent investigation revealed that the two suspects were from West Bengal. The police tracked their whereabouts and, on December 5, successfully traced them to their hometown.
After questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime and were brought back to Mumbai. They were produced in court and sent to police custody until December 16 for further investigation.
The police officials have praised the quick and efficient investigation, which led to the swift recovery of the stolen items and the arrest of the perpetrators.
