Mumbai Crime Branch Seizes Mephedrone Worth Rs 10.08 Crore, Arrests Two

The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested two individuals and seized a significant consignment of Mephedrone (MD) drugs, valued at Rs 10.08 crore in the international market. The arrest took place in Dadar, following an operation based on intelligence received from senior police officer and veteran encounter specialist Daya Nayak.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a team from Crime Branch Unit 9 raided a guest house near Dadar Railway Station, detaining Jahangir Sheikh (29) and Senual Sheikh (28). The operation led to the recovery of 5 kg 40 grams of Mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant often referred to as Meow Meow.

When the Crime Branch team approached, the suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended. Upon further investigation, the seized drugs were found to be a commercial quantity under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

A case has been registered at Matunga Police Station under Sections 8(C), 22(C), and 29 of the NDPS Act. With the necessary legal permissions, Crime Branch Unit 9 is now leading the investigation to trace the source and network behind the illicit drug trade.

Mephedrone, commonly known as MD or Meow Meow, is a synthetic stimulant that mimics the effects of methamphetamine and MDMA (Ecstasy). Due to its euphoric effects, it has gained popularity in the illegal drug market. However, its use poses significant health risks, including paranoia, hallucinations, and addiction.

As the investigation continues, the Crime Branch aims to uncover the broader network involved in this illegal trade and bring other individuals responsible to justice.
