Mulue Btseamlak, 29, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping a 41-year-old woman in Sheffield. The attack occurred in November 2022 in the Burngreave area, and the victim bravely reported the crime the same day, South Yorkshire Police said.
Btseamlak was arrested within an hour of the report and later found guilty of rape following a five-day trial in September. He was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage and Swift Action
Detective Constable Kevin Sibley of Sheffield CID commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward and providing evidence that helped secure the conviction.
“I am glad to see Btseamlak jailed for this horrific crime and hope that during his years behind bars, he reflects on the harm he has caused an innocent woman,” Sibley said.
Btseamlak was also given an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.
Commitment to Tackling Sexual Offences
DC Sibley also praised the investigating officers for their rapid response, leading to Btseamlak’s arrest within an hour of the crime being reported.
“We thoroughly investigate all reports of sexual offences, whether they are made the day of the crime or are historic,” he added.
Authorities continue to encourage victims of sexual crimes to come forward, reassuring them that every case will be taken seriously.
