Multiple Arrests in Sumter and Richland County for Money Laundering Tied to Cartels

Authorities in Sumter and Richland counties, South Carolina, have arrested four individuals on charges of money laundering for Mexican drug cartels following a lengthy investigation. The suspects, including three from Sumter County, were arrested on January 23, 2025, as part of a multi-agency effort.

In Sumter County, Caspin Powers Adachi (23), Fnu Naimullah (32), and Nasir Ullah (27) were taken into custody after arrest warrants were issued on January 14. A fourth suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested in Richland County with the assistance of the DEA, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

On the same day, law enforcement executed search warrants at two businesses on Broad Street and residences on Rhododendron Street and Currituck Drive, all linked to the suspects. These locations were believed to be used for laundering money on behalf of Mexico’s two major drug cartels: the Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel.

In addition to these arrests, authorities took Chinese national Puquan Huang into custody in Gwinnett County, Georgia, with plans to extradite him to South Carolina. Huang is also facing money laundering charges. The investigation, which spanned several years, revealed that the suspects worked closely with Chinese money launderers operating in both Georgia and South Carolina.

Ullah, who was previously arrested in October 2024 for smuggling $180,000, faces additional charges in Richland County. Authorities are also seeking Mohammad Azam Khan, the father of Ullah and Naimullah, who remains a fugitive believed to be in Dubai.

Following bond hearings, Powers Adachi, Naimullah, and Ullah posted bail. Powers Adachi and Ullah paid $20,000 each, while Naimullah posted a $200,000 bond. All three have been released.
