In a shocking turn of events, a mother-son duo from Thiruvananthapuram has been arrested for defrauding several people of crores by promising fake overseas job opportunities. The accused individuals, Dolphie Josephine and her son Rohit Saju, ran a travel agency called Brookport Travel and Logistics in Sasthamangalam. Their scam targeted job seekers who were promised visas and job placements in countries like Canada, the UK, and the US.
The fraud was discovered after multiple victims came forward, claiming that they had paid substantial sums to the agency but received neither visas nor job offers. The total amount defrauded is estimated to be around Rs 5 crore.
The victims, primarily from cities such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kottayam, and Wayanad, had paid between Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for visa processing and job placements. The agency had advertised lucrative job opportunities on social media platforms, offering attractive salaries ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh per month in European countries.
However, after making payments, the victims were left waiting for months without any updates or refunds. The agency eventually shut down, and the accused went into hiding. The Museum Police took action after receiving complaints from around 40 victims across 21 police stations in the state.
In response to a protest organized by the victims in front of the agency’s office in Sasthamangalam, the police arrested Dolphie Josephine and Rohit Saju. Their third accomplice, Saju Simon (Dolphie’s husband), remains absconding. Police are currently on the lookout for Simon.
The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities have vowed to bring all perpetrators to justice. The arrests were made by a team of Museum police led by SI N Ashachandran.
