In a startling turn of events, Sreethu, the mother of a two-year-old girl who was murdered by her uncle in Balaramapuram, was arrested on Sunday in connection with a financial fraud case.
Sreethu was taken into custody after a complaint was filed by Shiju, a man who accused her of swindling Rs 10 lakh by falsely promising him a job as a driver with the Devaswom Board. Police investigations revealed that Sreethu had never been employed by the Devaswom Board, neither on a permanent nor contract basis, and had misled Shiju into believing otherwise.
Following the complaint, police booked Sreethu for fraud and forgery. After being interrogated by the Rural SP and other officers, her arrest was officially recorded later in the evening.
Furthermore, ten more people have come forward with similar complaints, alleging that Sreethu had defrauded them with similar promises, though legal action has only been taken in Shiju’s case so far. The investigation into these complaints is still ongoing.
While Sreethu faces charges for financial fraud, the mystery surrounding the tragic murder of her toddler, Devendu, remains unresolved. Her brother, Harikumar, who confessed to killing the child, is in remand and is expected to be questioned again on Monday.
