Scott David Bixler, a 43-year-old man from Morgantown, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements. Bixler traveled to Mexico without notifying state police of his international travel plans, a violation of his sex offender obligations. He pleaded guilty to the offense in August 2024.
Bixler’s arrest occurred in Mexico, where authorities discovered troubling evidence linking him to a potential child exploitation scheme. Among the items seized were two tranquilizer air guns, methamphetamine, a cell phone jammer, and $5,000 in cash—believed to be intended for the purchase of a 7-year-old girl.
In addition to his prison sentence, Bixler will face lifetime supervised release after serving his time. This ongoing supervision will allow law enforcement to continue monitoring him post-incarceration. Bixler will also receive credit for the time he served following his arrest in August 2024.
