Montreal Man Arrested in Tire Fraud Scheme in Southern Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB — RCMP and Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) have arrested a man involved in a tire fraud scheme that targeted several businesses in southern Alberta.

According to authorities, six businesses received fraudulent phone or online orders for BF Goodrich K02 275/60/R20 tires. In each case, eight to twelve tires were ordered, and a man would pick them up the following day using a U-Haul van. Police allege that these credit card purchases were fraudulent.

Following a series of searches on August 22, 2024, police recovered a total of 150 tires from two storage lockers. Shawn Robineault, 42, of Montreal, has been arrested in connection with the fraud and faces multiple charges, including:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
Identity Fraud
Identity Theft
Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Robineault remains in custody and made his first court appearance in Calgary on Monday.

The RCMP is urging tire resellers in southern Alberta who sold more than eight BF Goodrich K02 tires in August 2024 to contact their local RCMP detachment and reference case number 2024-1219077.
