MONROE COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — Two more arrests have been made in the investigation of a Monroe County daycare center where a worker allegedly gave Benadryl to children without consent.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has arrested Cathy Stevick, the director of Forsyth Methodist Church Caring for Kids Child Care and Learning Center, and Shelby Webb, a teacher at the facility. Their arrests follow the initial March 10 arrest of Kendasja Hughley, who was accused of giving the allergy medication to toddlers in an attempt to make them drowsy before nap time.
MCSO reports that Hughley administered Benadryl to at least three 2-year-old children on March 3 and March 5. The drug should not be given to children under six without medical supervision. A fellow teacher witnessed the act and reported it to Stevick, the daycare director.
Following the allegations, the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) issued an emergency closure order for the daycare on Monday. Video surveillance and investigations confirmed Hughley’s actions.
Now, more staff members are facing charges:
Cathy Stevick (Director): Three counts of failure to report child abuse (misdemeanor).
Shelby Webb (Teacher): Felony cruelty to children and misdemeanor simple battery.
All three individuals are currently facing legal action as authorities continue their investigation into the daycare’s handling of child safety.
