Mohawk Man Arrested for Arson, Assault, and Strangulation in Domestic Incident

Mohawk, NY – Christian M. Callen, 49, of Mohawk, was arrested on Feb. 13 and charged with four felonies following a violent domestic incident in the Town of Warren, Herkimer County.

According to reports, Herkimer County 911 received a call about a domestic dispute at a residence on Hicks Road. Authorities say Callen set fire to the bedroom floor before getting into his vehicle and colliding with multiple cars in the driveway.

New York State Police apprehended Callen after speaking with witnesses. Investigators learned that Callen allegedly assaulted and choked a female victim during the confrontation. An elderly witness reportedly attempted to intervene and suffered physical injuries.

During the incident, Callen ignited part of the house, but those inside managed to extinguish the flames before police arrived. He then proceeded to ram his truck into two other vehicles, causing considerable damage.

Callen has been charged with felony arson, assault, criminal mischief, and strangulation. He also faces misdemeanor assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

After being taken to Wynn Hospital for a medical evaluation, Callen was returned to New York State Police custody. He was arraigned and is currently being held at Herkimer County Jail on $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.

Callen is scheduled to appear in Town of Warren Court in March.
