Panaji Police have detained Mohammad Sadiq Shaikh on charges of cheating a woman out of Rs 5.5 lakh by falsely promising her a government job and a housing board property. The arrest followed a complaint filed by the victim, who alleged that Shaikh had misled her into believing that he could secure both the job and the property in exchange for a significant amount of money.
According to police sources, Shaikh convinced the woman that he had connections and could expedite her application for a government position and a housing board property, demanding a payment of Rs 5.5 lakh for the services. After receiving the money, he failed to deliver on his promises, leading the victim to approach the Panaji police.
The police are continuing their investigation into the case to determine whether Shaikh is part of a larger fraudulent network involved in similar scams, preying on individuals seeking government employment and property. Authorities have assured that further inquiries will be made to uncover any potential accomplices and to recover the stolen amount.
