Mohali Police Arrest Congress Leader Rupinder Singh Rupi in Rs 2.3 Crore Fraud

The Mohali police have arrested Congress leader Rupinder Singh Rupi, the vice-president of Chandigarh Congress, along with his wife, Balwinder Kaur, son Ranjot Singh alias Roni (a Youth Congress leader), and father Jaspal Singh, in connection with a property fraud case worth Rs 2.3 crore.

The fraud case stems from a deal involving a plot in Mohali’s Industrial Area Phase-VIII, where Rupi allegedly duped Saurav Goyal, a resident of Sector 70, by failing to honor a property agreement. According to Goyal’s complaint, he entered into a deal in January for a 2,500 square yard plot, agreeing to a total price of Rs 14.28 crore. He paid Rs 2.3 crore in cash as an advance, in addition to providing cheques worth Rs 70 lakh.

Despite the payment, the accused did not clear the cheques within the agreed time. When Goyal inquired about the delay, Rupinder Singh claimed his son’s wedding was the cause of the hold-up and promised the cheques would be cleared shortly. However, the cheques remained uncleared, prompting Goyal to file a complaint with the police.

After verifying the facts, the police filed charges against the accused, resulting in their arrest. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
