In a significant breakthrough, Rajesh Sharma, the owner of Multiaxis Immigration Consultants in Sector 67, Mohali, was arrested on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust. The arrest came after a complaint was filed by Subrat Nandi, a resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, who accused Sharma of duping him and his associates out of Rs6 lakh after promising them New Zealand work visas.
Nandi, along with his associates, had approached Rajesh Sharma for assistance in obtaining work visas for New Zealand. In return, the accused demanded a payment of ₹6 lakh. However, instead of providing the promised visas, Sharma handed over fake offer letters to the victims.
The Phase-11 Police, under the leadership of Inspector Gagandeep Singh, conducted an investigation into the matter. Upon uncovering the fraudulent activities, the police arrested Sharma on Friday. He is facing charges under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as relevant sections of the Immigration Act.
This case highlights the growing issue of immigration scams, where fraudulent consultants exploit the aspirations of individuals seeking work opportunities abroad. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution when dealing with immigration services and verify the legitimacy of such firms before making any financial commitments.
