Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles Seize Rs 7.64 Crore Worth of Heroin and Methamphetamine, Arrest Smuggler

In a significant operation, authorities from the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police successfully seized heroin and methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 7.64 crore on Tuesday night in Zokhawthar, Champhai district. During the joint operation, a 34-year-old suspect, Lalruatzauva, was apprehended with 2.276 kg of heroin and a large quantity of methamphetamine tablets in his possession.

Lalruatzauva, a resident of Champhai, was caught smuggling the illicit drugs from Myanmar, which shares a long border with Mizoram. He was arrested and taken into custody for further investigation and legal action.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade, especially with Myanmar serving as a primary source of heroin and methamphetamine entering India through Mizoram. The region has been facing increasing concerns over drug trafficking, which has fueled local and national law enforcement to ramp up their activities.

This seizure follows another major drug bust on January 24, where Assam Rifles and the Excise and Narcotics Department recovered heroin worth Rs 35.51 crore in Champhai, leading to the arrest of two individuals. The seizure highlights the continued challenges faced by the authorities in controlling the influx of narcotics from Myanmar, which shares a 510 km unfenced border with Mizoram.

The authorities remain committed to their efforts to fight illegal trafficking in the region, with more operations planned to ensure a drug-free environment.
