In two separate operations, the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department and Assam Rifles successfully seized 350 grams of heroin in Champhai district, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
On December 6, a joint team of officials and Assam Rifles personnel, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid in the area between Zote village and the Tiau River near the India-Myanmar border. The operation resulted in the seizure of 48 grams of heroin. Two individuals, identified as Keddy Zosangliana (23) and Lalrinliana (21), both from Tachhip village, located in Aizawl district, were arrested for possessing the heroin.
The second operation took place the following day, on December 7, in Zotlang village, also in Champhai district. There, 303 grams of heroin were recovered from the possession of Lalsangzuala (44), a resident of Champhai town.
The three accused have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 for their involvement in drug trafficking activities.
These seizures reflect the ongoing efforts of the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department, in collaboration with Assam Rifles, to combat the growing issue of drug trafficking along the India-Myanmar border.
