Mississippi State Hospital Employee Arrested for Timesheet Fraud

JACKSON, Miss. — State Auditor Shad White announced the arrest of Roger Lofton, a Support Care Professional at the Mississippi State Hospital, for allegedly falsifying his timesheets.

Lofton has been served with a demand letter totaling $2,671.75, as reported by White’s office. “Thank you to the investigators and prosecutors who worked this case,” White stated. “We will continue to pursue losses to the taxpayers, both big and small.”

If convicted, Lofton could face up to five years in prison and fines up to $10,000. It’s important to note that all individuals arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case will be prosecuted by District Attorney Bubba Bramlett’s office.

Lofton’s employment at the Mississippi State Hospital is not covered by a surety bond, which typically protects taxpayers from corruption. Consequently, he remains liable for the full amount of the demand in addition to facing criminal charges.

Residents can report suspected fraud to the Auditor’s office at any time by visiting www.osa.ms.gov or calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during normal business hours.
