Two Beaufort men, Michael S. Campbell, 40, and Zebulon H. Schobernd, 44, were arrested in late January on drug-related charges after an undercover investigation uncovered their involvement in selling methamphetamine near Beaufort Middle School.
The investigation involved multiple undercover drug purchases, and authorities learned that Campbell was traveling out of state to obtain methamphetamine for distribution in Carteret County. On January 22, Campbell was stopped by the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office as he re-entered the county. A K9 search revealed 59.5 grams of methamphetamine in his vehicle.
Campbell was charged with numerous offenses, including multiple counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver methamphetamine, trafficking, and selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school. He was given a $250,000 secured bond.
Schobernd was arrested the following day, January 23, at his residence. He faces similar charges, including trafficking and drug sales near a school, and received a $75,000 secured bond. Schobernd also faces an additional $250,000 bond for the school zone drug charge.
Both men are being held at the Carteret County Detention Center while they await further proceedings.
