London, KY – A man is in custody following a tense standoff with law enforcement at the S&R Apartments on Barbourville Street early Monday morning.
The London Police Department responded to a domestic violence call at approximately 8:01 a.m. When officers arrived, they located the victim and ensured her safety. The victim reported that 36-year-old Michael Caldwell had assaulted her while armed with a handgun.
When police attempted to contact Caldwell, he refused to exit the apartment, resulting in a barricaded situation. The Kentucky State Police Special Response Team was called in for assistance.
After several hours of negotiations, Caldwell surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident. He faces multiple charges, including wanton endangerment (first degree) and assault (second degree, domestic violence). Authorities have not disclosed the condition of the victim at this time.
