MIAMI – Daniel Perez, 54, of Miami, was arrested earlier this week in connection with a string of business burglaries throughout the city. Perez faces charges of burglary of an occupied structure, grand theft, possession of burglary tools, and criminal mischief.
Authorities say the burglaries began in January, with Perez using the same method in each case. He would gain access to the businesses by cutting holes in the roofs, stealing cigarette products and lottery scratch-off tickets. These items were later attempted to be cashed out at various locations.
Surveillance video played a crucial role in identifying Perez, and he was arrested near Northwest 15th Avenue and 33rd Street. Upon his arrest, officers found stolen cigarettes and a large sum of cash matching items reported stolen during the burglaries.
One of the burglaries took place on February 5, 2024, at a business located at 2201 SW 16th St, where Perez caused $1,500 in damages to the roof and stole $2,000 worth of cigarettes and lottery tickets. His first known burglary was reported on January 11, and the businesses targeted were located in the Flagami, Allapattah, and Coral Way neighborhoods.
Perez was arrested while already out on bond for a previous felony burglary charge. As of Wednesday afternoon, he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
