Mewat, Rajasthan: A major online fraud racket was recently dismantled by the Mewat Police, with two individuals arrested for scamming people renting out properties on the popular real estate website, 99acre.com. The accused, identified as Sahil, 19, from Alwar, and Varis, 20, from Deeg, both in Rajasthan, were detained following coordinated raids in their respective towns.
The scam involved the fraudsters masquerading as Army officers, targeting property owners who had listed their rentals on the site. The accused lured victims by pretending to be prospective tenants, often using fabricated details about their military service to build trust. Once they gained the victims’ confidence, the scammers would proceed with fraudulent payments and various tactics to take control of the property listings.
Following investigations, the police traced the suspects and arrested them in separate locations across Rajasthan. The police are continuing to probe the racket to identify if other individuals are involved and to track the flow of the fraudulent funds.
