Methamphetamine Trafficker “Charapo” Sentenced to Over 12 Years in Federal Prison

YAKIMA, Washington — The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced on Wednesday that Rojas-Rangel, 51, also known as “Charapo,” was sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison for methamphetamine distribution.

According to court documents, in early 2024, DEA agents uncovered evidence that Rojas-Rangel was involved in selling methamphetamine in and around Yakima, Washington. Between February and May 2024, the DEA conducted several controlled purchases, ultimately acquiring approximately eight pounds of methamphetamine from Rojas-Rangel.

David F. Reames, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Seattle Field Division, commented, “Methamphetamine traffickers prey on their communities for profit. The DEA and our partners work especially hard to ensure accountability for repeat drug offenders, like Mr. Rojas-Rangel, with this richly deserved prison sentence.”

Rojas-Rangel has a criminal history related to drug trafficking. In December 2019, he was convicted in Yakima County Superior Court for delivering controlled substances in 2016, resulting in more than three years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington revealed that Rojas-Rangel had been previously deported from the U.S. and illegally re-entered the country before continuing his drug trafficking activities.

Acting U.S. Attorney Richard R. Barker emphasized, “The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to prioritize the prosecution of dangerous repeat drug offenders. Mr. Rojas-Rangel entered the U.S. illegally and then distributed large quantities of methamphetamine into the Yakima community.”

Rojas-Rangel’s sentence highlights the ongoing efforts by federal, state, and local law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and protect communities from the damaging effects of illegal drugs.
