COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) — A 24-year-old woman from Mesa County was arrested on Sunday for car theft and burglary after a series of incidents involving stolen property, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies had been tracking a car that had previously eluded law enforcement. When they attempted to make contact with the driver, the car fled the scene. Authorities set up a perimeter in the neighborhoods near 31 Road between E 1/2 and F Roads, and the vehicle was found abandoned on Cedar Drive.
Later, deputies observed a car driving in the neighborhood without headlights. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as Bridgett Fawcett, who provided a false name and was unable to correctly identify the car’s registered owner.
Deputies visited the address Fawcett claimed to be associated with her family, but the resident confirmed that the car had been stolen and no one had permission to drive it. It was also revealed that Fawcett had entered the home through an unlocked door, stole items, and then left in the car.
Fawcett was taken into custody and is facing several charges, including Eluding, Auto Theft, Burglary, and multiple traffic-related offenses. She also had an active arrest warrant at the time of her detention.
