Memphis Woman Sentenced to 10 Years in Federal Prison for Identity Theft and Bank Fraud

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WETM) — Patricia Johnson, 47, of Memphis, has been sentenced to 106 months (10 years) in federal prison for identity theft and bank fraud. This sentence follows her involvement in a scheme that took place between May and June 2022, during which she fraudulently obtained over $50,000 from victims across West Tennessee.

Evidence presented in court revealed that Johnson targeted individuals with the same name, “Patricia Johnson,” who had active bank accounts or were authorized signees on accounts. Johnson obtained their personal information, including bank account numbers, and used it to present herself as these victims at banking institutions. She made unauthorized cash withdrawals from their accounts at several locations.

Prior to these crimes, Johnson had an extensive criminal record spanning over 30 years, with numerous felony convictions for theft, fraud, and federal identity theft.

In May 2024, Johnson pled guilty to one count of bank fraud and two counts of aggravated identity theft. Additionally, she was sentenced to 14 months for violating supervised release from a previous case. Following her prison term, Johnson will serve five years of supervised release.
