Melvin Hayes Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charges After Chase

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Melvin Hayes, 29, was arrested on Christmas Eve after leading Huntsville Police on a chase that ended with drug trafficking charges.

At approximately 7 p.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle at Pratt Ave. and Washington St.. However, the driver failed to pull over, initiating a chase that ended near Pamela Dr.. Both the driver and passenger fled on foot after stopping the car, but officers quickly apprehended them after a brief foot pursuit.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 31 grams of cocaine, 10 grams of methamphetamine, and a variety of prescription drugs, including oxycodone, tramadol, hydrocodone, and promethazine.

Hayes was arrested and charged with drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute, four counts of possession of synthetic narcotics, and felony attempting to flee and elude.
