The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested an official from the Health Department of BMC’s E Ward on Friday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000. The accused, Arjun Ramtirtha Nishad, reportedly sought the bribe in exchange for making changes to a complainant’s birth certificate in Byculla.
The complainant had initially submitted a request to the Health Department on August 22, 2024, for a correction in his birth certificate. However, despite several follow-ups, the application faced delays. On January 1, 2025, the complainant received a new birth certificate, but both his and his mother’s names were incorrectly listed.
The complainant then visited the office again, only to be told to submit a new application on January 9, 2025. When he returned on February 20, Arjun Nishad allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000 to process the correction. Unwilling to pay, the complainant approached the ACB and filed a formal complaint.
The ACB set up a verification operation, and on Friday, they laid a trap to arrest the accused official. Nishad was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000, and he was subsequently taken into custody for further investigation. The case is being processed, and authorities are working on uncovering additional details surrounding the incident.
