Maurio Evans, a 35-year-old Mississippi man, was arrested early Saturday morning after a violent confrontation with Crystal Springs police.
According to Crystal Springs police, Evans appeared “belligerent” and attempted to enter the police department through its front door around 2 a.m. on Saturday, February 22. When confronted by an officer, a scuffle ensued. Investigators reported that Evans struck one officer in the face with a brick, inflicting serious injury.
Evans was eventually subdued and arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, simple assault on a public official (dispatcher), resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. The police department has not provided an update on the officer’s condition.
Evans was denied bond following his initial court appearance.
