Matthew Warren & Bobby Joyner Arrested in Pitt County Murder Case

PITT COUNTY, NC – Two men have been arrested following the discovery of a deceased man pinned under a vehicle on Sunday, March 23.

Deputies from the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office responded to Abbot Farm Rd. and Rountree Rd. around 3:25 a.m. after receiving reports of suspicious activity in the area. Upon arrival, they witnessed a person running into the woods and soon detained Matthew Warren, 27, of Buffalo, NY, and Bobby Joyner III, 24, of Greenville after they emerged from the same wooded area.

Investigation & Charges
Authorities later discovered a deceased Black male trapped under a vehicle in the roadway. While the medical examiner’s office is determining the official cause of death, preliminary findings suggest Warren was involved in an altercation with the victim, leading to his death.

Matthew Warren was arrested and charged with one count of murder. He is being held without bond at the Pitt County Detention Center.

Bobby Joyner III was charged with one count of accessory to murder and is being held on a $250,000 secured bond.

Police confirm that the suspect and victim were acquaintances, and this is considered an isolated incident with no threat to the public. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.
