An 18-year-old from Lowell, Massachusetts, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the armed robbery of a U.S. postal worker in Nashua, New Hampshire, earlier this year. Tyler Savinon was charged with aiding and directing the robbery, which occurred on April 16 on Blacksmith Way.
The incident, captured by a Ring doorbell camera, shows two individuals walking up to the USPS van where the mail carrier was standing. At least one of the suspects was armed with a gun, pointing it at the postal worker. Surveillance footage helped authorities identify the suspects, one of whom had already been arrested.
Savinon is accused of instructing the two individuals, including a youth, to rob the postal worker and steal the carrier’s master key. This key would allow them to access blue mailboxes in the area. Investigators believe Savinon used the stolen mail for check washing, a financial crime involving altering checks for fraudulent transactions.
Savinon was arrested and brought to federal court in Concord on Tuesday afternoon. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison. It is unclear whether he has legal representation at this time.
