Marion J.C. Cooper Arrested After High-Speed Chase

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A man wanted on multiple charges in Georgetown and Charleston counties was arrested after leading deputies on a high-speed chase that ended in the Santee area, Sheriff Carter Weaver announced.

The Pursuit & Arrest
Deputies attempted to pull over Marion J.C. Cooper, 42, but he fled south on U.S. 17. During the pursuit, Cooper was seen throwing a bag off the Sylvan L. Rosen Bridge near Maryville, according to the sheriff’s office.

The bag, containing suspected narcotics, failed to reach the Sampit River and was recovered by Georgetown County Sheriff’s K-9 Dukat.

Charges Against Cooper
Cooper was charged with:

Possession with intent to distribute cocaine
Possession with intent to distribute cocaine base
Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine
Possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs
Failure to stop for blue lights
Hindering police
Littering
Driving under the influence
Two counts of contempt of family court
Cooper is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing.
