Margherita Police Arrest 3 Drug Peddlers, Seize 16.96 Grams of Heroin

In a major breakthrough for the ongoing fight against the drug trade, Margherita Police successfully arrested three notorious drug peddlers during an anti-drug operation today. The operation, conducted in the Hillview and Bargolai, Bashbari areas of Margherita, led to the seizure of 16.96 grams of drugs, including heroin.

The operation, spearheaded by Protap Gogoi, Officer-in-Charge of Margherita Police Station, targeted individuals involved in the rampant illicit drug trade under the Margherita Co-District. The raid resulted in the arrest of Jiten Gwala from Hillview, Sofikul Ali, and Naziruddin Ali from Bargolai, Bashbari.

Jiten Gwala, a resident of Ulup, was found in possession of 8.11 grams of drugs, while Sofikul Ali and Naziruddin Ali, both residents of Maulang, Ledo, were caught with 8.85 grams of suspected heroin. The total seized contraband weighed 16.96 grams.

The police action has been widely welcomed by local residents, who have expressed their satisfaction with the police’s efforts to combat drug trafficking in the area. Protap Gogoi emphasized the success of the operation, stating, “Based on a tip-off, we were able to arrest three notorious drug peddlers along with banned contraband from Hillview and Bargolai, Bashbari. We are committed to making Margherita a drug-free region.”

The arrested individuals will be presented in the Margherita Sub Divisional Magistrate Court, and further investigations are ongoing to uncover the larger network of drug peddlers operating in the region for many years.
