Margaret A. Smith Arrested for Burglary, Assaulting Officers

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) – A Hannibal woman was arrested after allegedly burglarizing a home and assaulting two police officers during her apprehension.

The Hannibal Police Department (HPD) reported that 33-year-old Margaret A. Smith was taken into custody Saturday morning at a residence in the 400 block of Country Club.

Residents Held Smith at Gunpoint
According to police, when officers arrived at the scene, they found one resident physically restraining Smith, while another held her at gunpoint.

During her arrest, Smith allegedly grabbed an officer, sparking a struggle that resulted in two officers being injured. One officer required medical treatment at a local hospital before being released, while the other declined treatment.

Charges & Jail Status
Smith now faces multiple charges, including:

Burglary
Trespassing
Damaging property
Resisting arrest
Two counts of assaulting police officers
She is currently being held at the Marion County Jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
