KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Marcus Denmon, a former University of Missouri basketball star, and his brother Malik Denmon were arrested last week after being accused of an armed robbery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
According to court records, the Denmon brothers, aged 34 and 29, were arrested on March 6 in Kansas City and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. The robbery occurred at a Tulsa apartment complex on January 17, where the brothers allegedly stole around $16,000 in cash and personal items from a woman who was preparing to leave for a bachelorette party.
Police were called to the Cascata Apartments near East 79th Street and South Mingo Road that night following reports of an “ambush.” The woman was reportedly packing her car when the two men approached her, displaying weapons, and demanding her belongings.
Investigators later uncovered surveillance footage from a nearby hotel showing a white Chevrolet Malibu leaving the scene. The vehicle was traced back to a Platte City, Missouri rental car business, where it was registered under Marcus Denmon’s name. The footage also showed that the car had tinted windows at the time of the crime, but returned to the rental business without tint.
Further investigation revealed that the Denmons made several “suspicious cash deposits” at Kansas City-based ATMs between January 17 and January 26. This led to their arrests on March 6. As of Saturday, both men are being held without bond in a Jackson County jail.
Marcus Denmon, a Kansas City native, played for four years at Mizzou and earned First Team All-Big 12 honors. He was selected 59th overall in the 2012 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs and went on to play professional basketball internationally in Europe and China.
