Marcus Boyles and Bobby Rone Arrested for Copper Theft in Carroll County

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. — Torrential rain did not deter two thieves from attempting to steal copper wire in Carroll County, nor did it stop authorities from making an arrest.

41-year-old Marcus Shayne Boyles and 42-year-old Bobby Joe Rone, both from Greenville, were charged with grand larceny and conspiracy to commit grand larceny. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department responded after receiving reports of the theft and arrived to find the suspects had already cut about 40 feet of AT&T copper phone lines.

After a brief foot chase, the two were apprehended by law enforcement.

Sheriff Clint Walker emphasized the department’s commitment to stopping the theft of copper and utility wire, stating, “We are serious about this, even when it’s raining cats and dogs.”
