In a significant drug trafficking crackdown, the police arrested three individuals from Manipur for smuggling opium from the Myanmar border, converting it into high-quality heroin in Thoubal, and trafficking it to the Delhi-NCR region. Authorities recovered 10 kilograms of heroin, valued at over Rs50 crores in the international market.
The arrested suspects were identified as Mitralal Khatiwoda, 45, of Kangpokpi, Krishna Neopani, 21, from Senapati, and Akash Karki, 25, from Imphal West. They had concealed the drugs in a hidden compartment within a commercial truck, which was used to transport the heroin.
Police are continuing investigations to trace the larger network behind the trafficking operation. The heroin was reportedly destined for distribution in major urban areas of NCR, further highlighting the scope of the operation.
